This training provides an in-depth overview of the authority, regulatory considerations, and enforcement challenges surrounding the growing range of psychoactive and intoxicating products currently available to Colorado consumers through retail stores, smoke shops, wellness markets, and e-commerce platforms. Participants will gain insight into emerging product trends, evolving legal frameworks, and investigative considerations associated with substances increasingly accessible in the consumer marketplace.
The presentation is divided into four primary categories of substances and products. The first section examines cannabis-related products, including regulated marijuana and intoxicating hemp-derived substances commonly marketed throughout Colorado. The second section focuses on kratom and kratom-derived products, including product identification, methods of consumer access, and enforcement considerations. The third section explores substances classified within the natural medicine category and discusses the evolving regulatory landscape surrounding naturally derived psychoactive compounds. The final portion of the training addresses synthetic tryptamines, research chemicals, and other novel psychedelic substances emerging in retail and online markets.
Throughout the training, participants will review commercially available products, packaging, marketing trends, and real-world investigative examples to provide practical context and enhance understanding of current market trends, enforcement challenges, and investigative approaches related to psychoactive and intoxicating substances. This course is designed to support law enforcement, regulatory personnel, investigators, and public safety professionals in recognizing and navigating the complexities of Colorado’s rapidly evolving intoxicant marketplace.
